Fly Buys 1 point iPad sale a 'mistake'

Fly Buys says a "simple human error" led to iPad Airs being sold on their website for just one point  an offer 600 people tried to redeem.

A lucky 17 managed to get the deal and pick up their iPads before the company, owned by Loyalty New Zealand, learned of the mishap.

Those who were quick enough to get the product won't be forced to return them, but the company has cancelled the other transactions and reimbursed members their one point.

"It was a very simple human error which was made in our stock management system when a new product was loaded. We have cancelled the redemptions that were made, we have tried to rectify the mistake by doing that," marketing head Adele Fitzpatrick says.

"The reasonable thing to do is just to call [those who got the iPads], have a chat and appeal to their good nature. Trying to take back any iPad would be not really in our nature. We give away free stuff, we're in the business of doing that  just not this free."

The iPad Airs range from between 2830 and 6925 points depending on the model.

One point is earned for spending between $10 and $50 depending on which Fly Buys partner a member goes to.

While the company had had some complaints, Ms Fitzpatrick says many would "be able to recognise it as a mistake".

"It stood out quite clearly as an anomaly on the website. An iPad for 1 point is a pretty good deal."
