The company which has been helping Novopay operator Talent2 to clean up the mess from the teachers' pay debacle has been bought out by global business consultant giant Deloitte.

New Zealand technology company Asparona was hired by Talent2 in 2010, the Australian company contracted by the Government to pay the country's 110,000 teachers at some 2500 schools.

Thousands of teachers were either underpaid or overpaid last year and this year because of problems with the Novopay software, meaning some staff and schools not being paid properly for many months on end and facing financial strife.

The recent Ministerial inquiry into the Novopay debacle congratulates Asparona on its efforts to repair the damage from the crisis and clears Asparona of any blame.

"While Asparona provided significant impetus and capabilities, it did so within a project environment that was not conducive to success.

"Asparona discovered significant weaknesses in the development work that had already been completed."

120 staff in both Tango and Asparona will be absorbed by Deloitte, for who Deloitte says it will be 'business as usual', while Asparona owner Ian Rogers and Tango owner Phil Bratton will become equity partners in the new firm.

Deloitte, New Zealand's largest business consultant, has also bought Tango, another New Zealand company which specialises in a different kind of software for businesses.
