Author JK Rowling has sent a little joy to child living in war-torn Aleppo, in Syria.

The city has seen fierce bombardment by the Syrian and Russian air forces, with civilians among the dead.

Bana al-Abed is a seven-year-old girl who has been sharing harrowing insights into her life in Aleppo on social media.

She recently tweeted that she had enjoyed a Harry Potter movie, and wanted to know how she could read the books, too.

Rowling was only too happy to help.

With a heart-warming message and an adorable photo, al-Abed tweeted at Rowling thanking her for the gift - Rowling responded by saying "I love you too."

When a sceptical Twitter-user demanded to know how Rowling was able to deliver books to Aleppo, which has struggled to have aid delivered to those in need, she replied simply with: "eBooks".
