Director Ang Lee has dropped out of his TV directorial debut.

The filmmaker signed on to helm a pilot for Tyrant, the story of an American family pulled into a Middle Eastern conflict, on the back of his success with Oscar-winning movie The Life of Pi.

However, Lee has decided to quit the project, amid reports suggesting he is planning to take a break from his hectic schedule.

He is currently sitting on the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
