BioShock Infinite: Burial At Sea Episode 2 has Thief mode

The second episode of BioShock Infinite's Burial at Sea DLC will include a new '1998 Mode', challenging players to complete the narrative stealthily, using only non-lethal tools.

The mode is an obvious tribute to Thief: The Dark Project, a first-person stealth game released in 1998. Like many in the stealth genre, Thief emphasised avoiding confrontation and non-lethal play.

"In Burial at Sea: Episode Two we put a focus on balance and stealth mechanics," says Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games, in a post on the developer's website.

"As we were developing this new style of gameplay, we started to see people self-impose non-lethal playthroughs. Given the fan reception of 1999 Mode, we thought it would be cool to give them another way to play Burial at Sea that challenged their mastery of stealth tools."

1999 Mode was the hardest difficulty setting in BioShock Infinite, paying tribute to the harder games of previous generations with harder enemies and sparse checkpoints.
