Sir Roger Moore has paid tribute to James Bond production designer Sir Ken Adam following his death on Thursday.

The Oscar-winning designer, born Klaus Adam in Germany, passed away in his sleep at his London home, aged 95.

He worked on Bond films in the 1960s and 1970s. His famous Bond designs include the volcano lair in You Only Live Twice, a fictional Fort Knox vault, the Aston Martin ejector seat in Goldfinger, and the villain's headquarters in 1962's Dr No.

Moore, who played Bond on some of the designer's most iconic sets, paid tribute to Adam on Twitter, writing, "Sir Ken Adam - a friend, a visionary and the man who defined the look of the James Bond films."

Adam also created the Pentagon War Room in Stanley Kubrick's 1964 classic Dr Strangelove, the car in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and worked on films including Around the World In 80 Days, The Ipcress File and Addams Family Values.

A representative for the film franchise added on Twitter, "The Bond family mourns the passing of our beloved friend Sir Ken Adam who was so responsible for the visual style of the James Bond films."

Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro also praised Adam by sharing images of his set design drawings and wrote, "KEN ADAM has left us- a moment of silence in the halls of cinema."

Adam was nominated for Academy Awards a number of times, but took home the Best Art Direction prize for Barry Lyndon in 1976 and 1994's The Madness of King George.
