Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band will play their first New Zealand show in more than a decade in March next year.

'The Boss', as his fans call him, will play a single show at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday, March 1.

Springsteen was last here in 2003, touring his 9/11-inspired album The Rising. Since then he's released a number of critically acclaimed records, including Devils & Dust, Magic, Wrecking Ball and a collection of traditional folk songs, We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions.

"Our shows in Australia earlier this year were among the very best and most satisfying of our whole 128 show tour," says Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau.

"The crowds were tremendous, the fans as warm, friendly, and welcoming as we could ever hope for, and the quality of the performances, as virtually every reviewer commented, were spectacularly high."

Supporting Springsteen will be Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes.

Tickets go on sale 9am Monday, August 26.
