Sir Christopher Lee was embraced by the rock community at the Metal Hammer Golden God awards in London on Monday night - winning a prize for his contribution to metal music.
The 88-year-old surprised fans by releasing his first rock record, Charlemagne: By The Sword And The Cross, in March and his efforts were rewarded with the Spirit of Hammer award at the magazine's annual ceremony.
Black Sabbath and Heaven & Hell star Tony Iommi presented the prize to Lee, who made an emotional speech to the crowd.
Iommi was back on stage during the ceremony to collect his own trophy, winning the Best Album prize for Heaven & Hell's The Devil You Know.
Other winners throughout the night included Bullet For My Valentine (Best UK Band), Aerosmith's Joe Perry (Riff Lord) and Five Finger Death Punch (Breakthrough Artist), while Zakk Wylde landed the coveted Golden God award.
The night also saw rap/rockers Rage Against The Machine honoured for the recent chart campaign in the UK which saw their 1992 anthem ‘Killing In The Name’ take Britain's coveted Christmas number one spot ahead of The X Factor winner Joe McElderry.
The Defenders of the Faith award was presented to the band by Jon and Tracey Morter, the couple who organised the internet drive to end the rule of reality TV stars at the top of the festive charts.
