Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley is reportedly in the running to take on the role of Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider film reboot.

Daisy was picked out of virtual obscurity to star as Rey in the blockbuster franchise reboot and now she is being eyed for the action role made famous by Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s.

Movie executives at Warner Bros and MGM are relaunching the franchise, based on the popular video game series, and are reportedly looking at a number of actresses. The reboot has reportedly been in the works for several years, although it is unclear when the movie is slated to begin filming as the production is in its very early stages.

Daisy has been praised for her Star Wars role, but she was recently criticised for appearing too thin in the film and setting "unrealistic expectations" for young girls. However, she refused to accept the criticism and hit back in a powerful post online, insisting she will not apologise for her looks.

"People who relate to something in Rey they haven't found in a female character before," she wrote on Instagram.com. "People who's daughters now think they can do things without the aid of a man, but who wouldn't be ashamed to ask for help..."

"I'm just a normal girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, just like Rey," she added. "I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what's happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way."
