Elton John sued for sexual harassment

Singer Elton John is being sued by a former body guard who is claiming sexual harassment and battery.

Los Angeles police officer Jeffrey Wenninger says multiple incidents of offensive touching and groping during his 12 years protecting Sir Elton.

The superstar denies the charges, with his lawyer called the claims "baseless".

Mr Wenninger says the incidents of harassment increased in "frequency and intensity after 2010".

One of the incidents allegedly occurred just two weeks before the singer married long-time partner David Furnish in 2014.

Sir Elton's attorney, Orin Snyder, said in a statement that Mr Wenninger is "a disgruntled former security officer seeking to extract an undeserved payment".

"These claims are patently untrue and contradicted by numerous previous statements made by this plaintiff," Snyder said.

Mr Wenninger was awarded the LAPD's Medal of Valor in 2007 in recognition of his actions 11 years earlier, CNN has reported, when he and 12 other officers helped rescue more than 80 elderly people from a burning building.
