Ethan Hawke's Predestination picks up awards

Ethan Hawke's sci-fi thriller Predestination was among the early winners at this year's Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards after landing three prizes in the technical categories.

The film took three early trophies which were handed out at a luncheon on Tuesday prior to the main awards ceremony in Sydney, Australia on Thursday.

Hawke's film won prizes for cinematography, editing, and production design, while other winners included Russell Crowe's directorial debut The Water Diviner (Best Costume Design), The Rover (Best Sound), and The Railway Man (Best Original Music Score).

At the main awards ceremony, Predestination will compete for more honours including the Best Film prize, going up against The Water Diviner and The Railway Man, as well as Charlie's Country and Mia Wasikowska's Tracks.
