Comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have opened the 72nd annual Golden Globe awards by slagging off Hollywood's finest and making digs at North Korea and Bill Cosby.

"Good evening and welcome you bunch of despicable, spoiled, minimally talented brats," were Fey's first words to the audience.

"Tonight we celebrate all the great television shows that we know and love, as well as all the movies that North Korea was OK with."

Fey was referring to Sony film The Interview, which was pulled from multiple cinemas across the States after North Korea threatened an attack. The film mocks North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

"North Korea referred to The Interview as intolerable and a wanton act of terror. Even more amazing, [it was] not the worst review the movie got."

It's the third and final year the comedy duo will host the awards.
