Animation studio Pixar has already won a dozen Oscars, and it could be about to win more, courtesy of Inside Out.

Some are calling it the best Pixar film yet, better even than Finding Nemo and Toy Story.

The man behind the movie, Pete Doctor, who calls Inside Out his toughest project yet.

"I realised only a couple of months in [how crazy it would be]," says Doctor.

The film tells the story of 11-year-old Riley and her cast of inner emotions. When her blissful childhood becomes a little more challenging, her go-to emotion Joy finds herself with some stiff competition from Anger, and Fear, Disgust and eventually Sadness.

The film is brave, clever and incredibly emotional. And who better to bring the Joy to this movie than comedian Amy Poehler?

"When I was asked to do it, it filled me with so much joy," says Poehler. "It's the next beautiful, great Pixar movie. It was not hard to get excited and keep that excitement when I was doing it".

Poehler's distinctive humour has its handprints all over this film.

"There's so much stuff [in film], animated stuff and films in general, they're all about external stuff - chases and bad guys and superheroes and the world ending and everything blowing up. Those are great, but Pixar decided to go in, which is like the new frontier."
