Next week, the 7 Days crew are hitting the road again to share laughs with live audiences up and down Aotearoa.

Jeremy Corbett, Paul Ego, Dai Henwood, Urzila Carlson, Ben Hurley, Jeremy Elwood and Josh Thomson are part of the 11-date tour, which includes stand-up comedy and the crew's unique take on the news and current affairs.

Before the team pile into a bus and launch into their gigs, I had a chat with Corbett about the five best things about touring New Zealand.

The dodgy hotel

"It's always fun when the production team books us into a place that might've looked good online, but isn't actually good. They'll have paper thin walls and the staff will have just opened the door and thought, 'Yeah that looks clean enough'. They have the smell of despair these places," says Corbett.

"The sorts of places where illegal truckers go with hookers, they're always fun."

Whanganui townsfolk yelling

"Whanganui has the highest rate of people yelling at you from their cars. There's always a lot of yelling from the cars down there. People usually yell, '7 Days!' Per capita, they'd be the winners," says Corbett.

"I don't know if they don't like face-to-face conversation, but it's kind of nice. It's a very Kiwi way of connecting. They yell '7 Days', then they feel they've greeted us, so they can move on."

The New Zealand 'compliment'

"This is always an interesting thing on the road. New Zealanders don't like to just come up and say 'I liked your show'. They tend to come up and say things like, 'My wife likes your show, I'm not much of a fan'," says Corbett.

"They can't give you a compliment without a bit of a rug-pull. Another one is, 'Oh you're much funnier live than you are on TV'. It's like a little pat on the back, but also a way of telling us not to get up ourselves."

Jokes about Dai's height

"People think they're being original when they make fun of Dai's height, or they come up and stand next to him to see who's taller. They think it's the first time anyone has ever done it, but it's just the worst," says Corbett.

"Dai is such a wonderful guy, he's so nice about it. But it's just so unoriginal, everybody does it. People have a little look on their face when they sidle up to him as if he's never heard it before - I don't know how he hasn't punched one of them before."

The crew

"The 7 Days crew are just so amazing. The banter we have together, the running gags that crop up during each tour. It's just great fun," says Corbett.

"People will often get tour nicknames - for instance, mine is Jackknife. They all call me Jackknife now, but we better not say why."

The 7 Days Live tour kicks off on November 30 in Whanganui with dates in Nelson, Palmerston North, Timaru, Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Wellington, Dunedin and Tauranga.
