In his interview with C4’s Jono Pryor, Metallica frontman James Hetfield admitted that if the band regretted anything it would be the spelling of their second instrumental track ‘The Call of Ktulu’.
The track, from their 1984 album Ride the Lightning, is based on H.P Lovecraft’s book The Shadow over Innsmouth, and was originally spelt ‘The Call of Cthulu’.
Hetfield also confessed that the band is still coming up with new material and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
“We’re always constantly writing” he says. “Turning the Metallica switch off never happens”.
Jono also asked about the band’s current relationship with former bass player Jason Newsted.
“Last time we talked to Jason was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” says Hetfield. “We’re not coming over for barbeques or anything but you know, we’re at peace and he’s at peace with his decision. That’s good, there’s no ill will towards anything he’s done or going to do at all.”
Metallica were in Christchurch to perform two sold-out concerts. They play in Auckland on October 13 and 14.
