After stating publically his latest album would "never never never" be on Apple or for sale, Kanye West has indeed put it on Apple and for sale.

The Life of Pablo was originally released solely on Jay Z's often criticised streaming service Tidal, leading to widespread illegal downloads.

"My album will never never never be on Apple. And it will never be for sale... You can only get it on Tidal," West promised fans on Twitter.

The announcement boosted Tidal subscriptions, temporarily to the top of the US App Store, but has turned out to be false as The Life of Pablo is now available to users of iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify and other major music services.

It is also available for purchase from West's own website.

The wide release of the album is also apparently better than what Tidal customers originally had exclusive access to. Bosses at Def Jam Records describe it as a "newly updated, remixed and remastered version".

They also indicated that West would continue to tweak the album, saying: "In the months to come, Kanye will release new updates, new versions and new iterations of the album".

Perhaps in reference to this dramatic change of strategy with the album, West last week tweeted:
