Siblings and the entertainment industry usually make lovers of music wake, startled from their sleep, in a dread-induced cold sweat.
I know I will offend some people’s music tastes here – but for this reporter the mere thought of having to listen to a compilation album comprising Hanson, the Bee Gees and the Carpenters makes me want to saw off my ears and fill the resulting holes with lead.
It’s not all bad though. There’s the Kinks, and the Ramones all shared the same surname (if not the same DNA).
I thought the clip below would be terrible, but it’s actually strangely good:
Kitty, Daisy and Lewis definitely break the trend though.
Their modern take on the blues, R n B, rock n roll and ska has earned them critical acclaim, which they have aligned with extremely popular live shows.
They started touring from a young age, playing covers of the music they grew up listening to, but over the last few years started to write their own songs.
I was lucky enough to speak to the band’s brother Lewis… I say lucky as it was about 11pm in England when I called and he was recovering from an all night party celebrating his sister’s birthday, there is something very ‘not-the-Carpenters’ about that.
Despite Lewis’ lack of sleep, we talked about the bands recording process, what it’s like to tour with your family, the history of the music that inspires them and why New Zealand is just way cooler than Australia.
Kitty, Daisy and Lewis play Auckland's Powerstation on Tuesday, January 31 and at Bodega in Wellington on Wednesday, February 1.
