Lauren Conrad wishes she wasn't in such "a hurry to grow up" as a teenager.
The TV star-turned-style icon shot to fame at the age of 18 when she appeared in reality show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County.
And in hindsight Lauren believes she didn't get the full benefit of youth.
"When I was 18, I was in a hurry to grow up," she explained in a new post entitled Ask Lauren: Dear 18-year-old Me… published on her website.
"Instead, I wish I would have taken a beat to just enjoy being young."
Lauren believes her teenage folly also may have adversely impacted her health.
She often went out in the Californian sun without wearing sunscreen, something she would never do nowadays.
"When I was a teenager, tanning was the mode du jour, and I was all about getting that sun-kissed [or tanning bed orange…] glow," Lauren recalled. "I felt invincible and never thought twice about the skin damage caused by UV rays."
Ultimately the star feels as if she followed the crowd a little too much as a youngster.
And Lauren encourages people to express themselves authentically to others.
"For so long you've gone to school with the same people, and everything you've done is with the same group of friends in more or less the same environment," she said.
"Then, for the first time you get to go off on your own and make real, conscious decisions about where you want life to take you. You get to choose your school, your major, and what kind of person you'll become. So when you're making these decisions, be an individual. It's the best way to discover who you really are."
