Kiwi singer Lorde came to the defence of her friend Taylor Swift last night after Diplo publicly criticised the size of her "booty".

Thomas Wesley Pentz, a.k.a. US DJ/producer Diplo, yesterday took to Twitter and said: "Someone should make a kickstarter to get taylor swift a booty".

One of his followers started a crowdfunding page, and also suggested starting a petition on whitehouse.gov, the US government's official website, to get federal funding for Swift's new booty.

It didn't take long for Lorde to swoop in however, hitting Diplo with a comeback that's been retweeted almost 23,000 times at the time this article was published: "should we do something about your tiny penis while we're at it hm".

Other Swift fans also rushed to her defence – one posted a comment on the funding page: "So people donate money for something so stupid like this? ... when are thousands of persons out there who die of hungry... Bulls**t system!"

The campaign so far has raised $85, including $35 from Diplo himself.

Swift's new album 1989 has been the fastest-selling in the US for more than a decade, so if she really wanted to buy a new booty, she probably wouldn't need Diplo's help.

Diplo and Lorde aren't strangers. The American musician has previously remixed the Kiwi teen's 'Tennis Court' and contributed to the soundtrack for the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which Lorde curated.
