Amy Winehouse's friend Mark Ronson and her former manager Nick Shymansky have given their thumbs-up to a controversial new documentary about the tragic singer after its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in France over the weekend.

Amy premiered to stellar reviews at the event despite being blasted by the singer's father Mitch, and Ronson was one of those who approved of the film, according to his wife Josephine de La Baume.

She tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Mark did like it, definitely. It shows a really beautiful side to her. When she died, he was so wounded... it really is a very beautiful movie."

Winehouse's former manager Shymansky adds, "Amy's legacy has become so much about the messy end yet there is so much brilliance at the beginning. This movie helps people see it."

Winehouse, who worked with Ronson on his version of The Zutons track 'Valerie', died from alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.
