Filmmaker Peter Berg is in talks to reunite with his Lone Survivor star Mark Wahlberg to tackle the story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings in Patriots' Day.

The Massachusetts-born Ted star, who is already onboard as producer of the film, is hoping to take on a lead role in the movie, which is based on the events surrounding the real-life attacks, which cost three people their lives and left 264 others injured during the famous Boston Marathon in April, 2013.

The film is based on the account of Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis.

Berg is reportedly close to sealing a deal to direct and co-produce, teaming him up with Wahlberg once more, according to Variety.com.

They are currently working together on oil spill drama Deepwater Horizon and Berg and Wahlberg are also lined up for action film Mile 22, which is slated for a 2016 release.

Two rival movies about the Boston Bombings are also in development - Jake Gyllenhaal has been named as a frontrunner to star as one of the survivors in Lionsgate's Strong, while Fox executives are working on Boston Strong. They have yet to announce details of their cast or crew.
