Melanie Brown wins restraining order extension

British singer Melanie Brown has won an extension of a restraining order to keep an Australian photographer away from her until next year.

The Spice Girls star took legal action against Aussie snapper Jamie Fawcett earlier this month after claiming he had endangered her life by sailing too close to her in a boat while she was kayaking in Sydney Harbour in October.

Brown, who works Down Under as a judge on Australia's The X Factor TV show, won an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Fawcett at a court hearing in Sydney earlier this month.

The star was back at Waverly Court on Thursday to apply for an extension to the AVO, which orders Fawcett to stay away from Brown and her husband, Stephan Belafonte, and a magistrate granted the request.

Fawcett will have to stay at least 50 metres away from Brown until another court hearing on 15 April, but the magistrate did not extend the order for Belafonte, ruling the movie producer no longer needs protection.
