One of New Zealand's most iconic musicians says he'll take time out from touring once his current road trip ends.

Neil Finn is about to embark on the Kiwi leg of his Dizzy Heights tour – the third solo album for the 56-year-old.

He says it will be his last tour for a while.

It comes off the back of a 2014 world tour, playing two-hour shows throughout Australia, the United states, United Kingdom, Europe and Dubai.

Finn will be joined on stage by a six-piece band, which includes his wife, and the special opening act is New Zealand singer-songwriter Bic Runga.

The tour takes place in five New Zealand venues and starts on Thursday night in Napier.

3 News reporter Alex Bourn sat down with the musician to talk about Dizzy Heights, the hottest band on the planet and performing epic long sets inspired by Bruce Springsteen.
