A catchy beat, a simple dance, nonsensical lyrics - 'Pen Pineapple Apple Pen' is the latest weird song captivating the internet.

Also known as its shortened form of 'PPAP', the video was created by Japanese comedian and DJ Kosaka Daimaou, whose real name is Kazuhiko Kosaka, under his alter-ago Pico Taro.

The song addresses a very simple concept. You have a pen and an apple. Now you have an apple pen.

But wait! What if you had a pen and a pineapple? You guessed it, now you have a pineapple pen.

Put them together, you get a Pen Pineapple Apple Pen.

As if 'PPAP' wasn't oddly catchy enough, he's also released a remix.

But while some are hailing the song as the next 'Gangnam Style', it has a little way to go.

Psy's hit has racked up more than 2.6 billion views in the four years it's been online - 'PPAP' has been viewed 3 million times since late August.
