Photos: The most demanding celebrities

Last week, Pharrell Williams turned heads when he requested a framed photo of astronomer Carl Sagan backstage at all his shows. But if organisers thought the 'Happy' singer's demands were outrageous, they've never worked with following high-maintenance celebrities.

Katherine Heigl has gotten quite the reputation for being difficult to work with. Several executives and producers who've worked with the Grey's Anatomy star have said she is incredibly demanding and "just not worth it".

But she's not as bad as Teri Hatcher. The Lois and Clark star has been called the "meanest woman in the world" by Desperate Housewives co-star Nicollette Sheridan. Since then, it is widely known Hatcher didn't get along with anyone on the show's set. When Desperate Housewives came to an end, the farewell gift card from the show's cast to the crew didn't include her name, and cast members couldn't even tolerate her at photo shoots.

When it comes to being a diva, Mariah Carey takes the crown. She doesn’t like busy patterns, she "doesn't do stairs" and when walking on stage on talk shows, she requires an assistant to walk backwards in front of her at all times in case she falls over.

But that's not the only assistant the pop star employs. She needs an additional assistant to hold her glass of Crystal champagne, and to hold the bendy straw she drinks it with, along with an assistant to dispose of her chewed gum.

Harsh lighting and busy patterns were not allowed when she attended the grand opening of Westfield London, and the star demanded to be surrounded by 20 white kittens and 100 white doves.

Another diva with a strong preference for the colour white is Jennifer Lopez. The 'Let's Get Loud' singer refuses to stay in a room that isn't exclusively decorated with white furniture. She needs white lounge areas, white covers for chairs, white candles and even her food must be white.

"Jenny from the Block" will not sit her US$27 million insured backside on any other toilet seat than the one that was custom-made for her and will only drink-room temperature Evian water. As for J-Lo's room, it must be kept at a strict 25.5degC.

It should come as no surprise that Kanye West has high standards. The artist, who refers to himself as "Yeezus", will not walk on carpets that haven't been ironed. He also requires everyone in his entourage to wear clothes made from 100 percent cotton and "no man-made fibers".

As for his own accessories, West demands imported Versace towels - because what else is Yeezus going to wipe his face with?

And if you're ever unlucky enough to land a job as Katy Perry's driver, please remember the pop star forbids "the help" to start a conversation with her, ask her for an autograph, or look directly at her. That includes peeking in the rear view mirror.

So what about the original diva, Prince?  Although most of his requests are run-of-the-mill coffee and tea with honey, lemon, sugar, cream and fresh ginger, the 'Purple Rain' singer does require an onsite physician to administer B-12 injections.

And all those fabulous costumes he wears on stage? The 'Purple Rain' singer demands that "all items in dressing room are covered by clear plastic wrap until uncovered by main artist. This is absolutely necessary."

But outrageous demands aren't reserved for musicians and actors. Known for carrying around a duffel bag with US$1 million cash at all times, Floyd Mayweather is expected to have high demands. For his Australian promotional tour, the boxer needed a barber – experienced in cutting African-American hair, of course – available 24/7.

'Money' Mayweather also requested an entire hotel floor for his 31-strong entourage, including personal DJs, security guards, personal assistant, agent and his mascot.

Some celebrities are happy with less. David Hasselhoff doesn't need much. The only thing the Baywatch star requests in his hotel room is a life-size cut-out of himself to keep him company.

And if you thought these demands were over the top, The Foo Fighters agree. In 2011, the rock band made up an illustrated tour rider, including a 52-page "Field Guide To Food" colouring book. The guide featured activity pages, including a game where organisers had to circle the items that belong in a salad, amongst a series of illustrations including a drawing of a UFO and Lionel Richie.

Have a look at the full 52-page rider here.
