After last week's surprise announcement that Prince will play a show in New Zealand this month, another announcement today says he will play two shows in one night, on February 24.

The two shows, at Auckland's ASB Theatre, will be at 6:30pm and 10pm.

They are part of Prince's Piano & A Microphone tour, which promoters say will be exclusive and intimate shows.

The repertoire will be culled from Prince's vast 39-album catalogue and each performance will have a unique set-list that evolves in real time, song-to-song, promoters say.

Fans should expect to witness special interpretations of well-known hits alongside rarely performed B-sides and new, never-before-heard material.

According to a Rolling Stone review of one of the tour's shows, Prince performs on a stage decorated sparsely with candles and shrouded in smoke.

"The set moved chronologically (with a few exceptions) through the first decade of Prince's career," Rolling Stone says, "including at least one song from each of his first 10 albums".

Tickets go on sale at midday on Thursday. There are three ticket prices: $99.90, $219.90, and $389.90.
