Stars wish Joni Mitchell a speedy recovery

A host of stars including Kevin Bacon, Boy George and Billy Idol have paid tribute to hospitalised folk music legend Joni Mitchell.

The 'Big Yellow Taxi' hitmaker was found unconscious and moved to a Los Angeles medical facility on Tuesday where she is "in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirit" according to a post on her official website.

Stars flocked to Twitter to express their sadness at the news and wish the singer a speedy recovery.

Bacon wrote, "Sending good wishes today to one of the finest singing, song-writing,guitar playing artists in history #JoniMitchell" while George posted, "A prayer for Joni Mitchell."

Idol wrote, "Sorry to hear todays news about Joni Mitchell. I sang on her 'Dancing Clown' single many moons ago, all the best 4 her recovery..." and singer/songwriter St Vincent simply posted, "NO. Not Joni."

Rock duo Best Coast used the microblogging site to write, "Sending every single ounce of positive energy I have to Joni Mitchell", Canadian star Ron Sexsmith adds, "Just read that Joni Mitchell has been hospitalized in LA. Let's keep her in our thoughts tonight and hope for a speedy recovery RS"

and singer Jessie Baylin posted, "Pray 4 Joni."

Kooky singer Eliza Doolittle added, "hope you're ok Joni!" and newsman Tavis Smiley wrote, "Pulling and praying for #JoniMitchell. Artistic genius. Pure and simple."

The legendary singer's name became a trending topic on Twitter in the UK as fans continue to flood the site with well-wishes for the star.
