Oscar-nominated movie The Imitation Game looks set to be honoured by gay rights campaigners after receiving a top nod for the GLAAD Media Awards.

The British actor plays gay mathematician Alan Turing in the World War II drama, and it is now the favourite to take the coveted Outstanding Film - Wide Release title at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's (GLAAD) prizegiving.

The Imitation Game, which is up for Best Picture at this year's Oscars, faces competition from Love is Strange, Pride, The Skeleton Twins and Tammy.

In the TV categories, Game of Thrones, Grey's Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, and Masters of Sex are among those in the running for the Outstanding Drama Series trophy, while Outstanding Comedy Series includes Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Glee, Modern Family and Orange Is the New Black, among others.

The GLAAD Media Awards will be handed out at ceremonies in Los Angeles on March 21 and in New York on May 9.
