The Simpson family's favourite Springfield haunts will soon jump from the TV screen into real life after Universal Orlando announced it would create a Simpsons inspired area within their theme park.

The theme park, which will be part of the larger theme park, will be modeled on the fictional town of Springfield where Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson live.

It will be built around the theme park's already existing Simpsons Ride and will include the Android's Dungeon and Baseball Card shop, Lard Lad Donuts, Krusty Burger and Moe's Tavern – complete with Duff Beer on tap.

A second ride based on alien character's Kang and Kodos called the Twirl 'n' Hurl will also be installed.

Universal has not announced an opening date, but says it will be open later this year.

The Simpsons is in its 25th season making it the longest running scripted TV series in history.

Universal Orlando is also home to the Harry Potter theme park The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
