Producer and hitmaker Timbaland has opened up about his true feelings for tragic Aaliyah in an explosive new TV tell-all, revealing he was madly in love with the young star but couldn't act on his dreams of romance.
In a brand new True Hollywood Story special, which will air on America's E! network next week, the R&B icon talks about his past weight problems and his suicidal thoughts, but it's his confession about his Aaliyah crush which will stun many fans.
He says, "When I first met Aaliyah - it's time for the world to hear this, I'm gonna give a little secret - I was in love with her. I said, 'She (is) just a baby, I'm old'. I said to myself, 'I'm just gonna be her brother'.
"Oh man, I was fightin', I was fightin' a lot - a big war. But I loved Aaliyah."
Aaliyah, who died in a 2001 plane crash, collaborated with Timbaland and Missy Elliott on her second album.
The Timbaland tell-all also features a candid conversation about the producer's past weight issues, which almost drove him to taking his own life.
He explains, "I was almost 400 pounds (181.8 kilograms). Who wants to be a 400-pound black man? I'm looking in the mirror, my breast is bigger than a girl breast. And I was saying, 'That ain't cool'. So I got very depressed, like suicidal depressed."
