Lorde has released her new video for her new single 'Team'.

However crazed fans attempting to watch the video caused the page it was hosted on to crash temporarily.

She announced the imminent release of the video on Twitter this morning, and that she'd answer questions from her 616,000 followers about the video.

Shortly after the video was posted she tweeted about issues many were having getting the video to load.

"i think you're all overloading the video... let it breathe! hehe [sic]'," she tweeted.

"omg you crashed vevo! [sic]'," she wrote ten minutes later.

The page has since recovered from the increase in attention.

She told her Facebook followers the idea for the video came to her in a dream.

"This video was borne from a dream i had a few months ago about teenagers in their own world, a world with hierarchies and initiations, where the boy who was second in command had acne on his face, and so did the girl who was queen. i dreamt about this world being so different to anything anyone had ever seen, a dark world full of tropical plants and ruins and sweat. and of this world, i dreamt about tests that didn't need to be passed in order to be allowed in: sometimes the person who loses is stronger. enjoy xx [sic]'," the teen wrote.

The release comes on the back of an extraordinary year for the 17-year-old Aucklander, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor.

Last week she took home four awards at the 2013 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards for Single of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, People's Choice Award and International Achievement.

To earn the latter reward, Lorde appeared on number of television shows in the US and UK including The Ellen Degeneres Show, ...Later with Jools Holland and The Late Show with David Letterman.

Lorde has also been at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 for the past nine weeks with her debut single 'Royals', holding back the likes of Eminem and Lady Gaga from pole position.
