Video: Red Bastard to ask plenty of Comedy Festival crowd

Eric Davis may be an amiable, well-mannered fellow out of costume -- but his stand-up comedy show quite literally turns him into a monster.

The bright-red, deformed beast Davis turns into when he performs as the Red Bastard is provocative, loud and outrageous -- and couldn't be more different from Davis' usual persona.

The Red Bastard expects a lot from his audience; he coerces them to interact with him, making them jump up out of their seats and yell and make fools of themselves throughout.

But there's a reason behind the bulbous monstrosity he becomes -- it allows Davis a platform to confront people, forcing them to ask themselves life's biggest questions.

At previous shows he's seen audience members end decades-long family feuds, resign from jobs they've hated and propose to their girlfriends.

His first show at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival is tonight at Auckland's Q Theatre, where he'll perform over the next four nights before heading to Wellington.
