Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker, stars of AMC series The Walking Dead, are reprising their roles for Activision’s upcoming The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.

In the game, players assume the role of the crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon (Reedus), a fan favourite character from the post-zombie apocalypse TV show.

It’s a first-person survival title set within the universe of The Walking Dead and before the events of the TV show, following Daryl and his brother Merle (Rooker) on a gruesome journey to reach the supposed safety of Atlanta as the world around them ends.

Developers Terminal Reality are attempting to create a game that is authentic to the TV show and will draw in its fan base.

"Our goal is to shape Daryl authentically, chronicling everything that happens to him from the initial Wildfire Global Outbreak until he joins with Rick Grimes's group at that quarry near Atlanta," says creative director Drew Haworth.

"And on the way, we'll reveal a couple of our own interesting backstory surprises that fans haven't already gleaned from the series.
"Players will have the opportunity to meet some interesting characters and have a hand in deciding their fate. Oh, and there are some really cool zombies."
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is set for a 2013 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
