The first look at the long-awaited Blade Runner sequel shows the return of Rick Deckard as he confronts a younger agent.

Following his reprisal of Han Solo in last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Harrison Ford is returning to his iconic character from Ridley Scott's seminal 1982 thriller, and facing off against Ryan Gosling.

The development of a Blade Runner sequel started in 1999 with Scott originally set to direct, but later took an executive producer role instead, with Arrival and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve stepping up as director.

The video, described by Sony Pictures as an 'introduction' rather than a trailer, showcases the iconic, neon-lit futuristic Los Angeles setting, along with audio nods to Vangelis' classic original soundtrack.

Along with Ford and Gosling, Blade Runner 2049 also stars Robin Wright, Jared Leto and Dave Bautista.

It's set for release in October, 2017.
