Sir Peter Jackson's follow-up to The Hobbit trilogy has put out a casting call for "a large number" of Wellingtonians.

Mortal Engines is the next film being made by the Braindead filmmaker, who is producing and co-writing with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, while Christian Rivers will direct.

A job notice for extras on the film has been posted on Trade Me, stating the production takes place in Miramar between March and June of this year.

Applicants are required to be aged 17 or older, be able to work with just 12 hours of notice and would be paid $200 per day before overtime.

As well as being flexible with their hours, the extras would presumably have to each find their way to the filming location(s), as they're required to have their own transport as well.

Mortal Engines is an adaptation of the Phillip Reeve novel, set in a distant future where Earth's cities roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle for ever diminishing resources.

More information on the casting call is viewable on Trade Me.
