Kim Kardashian insults Catholics by posing as Mary to sell products

Kim Kardashian has insulted Catholics by publicising a product that features her as one of the symbols of their religion - Mary, the mother of Jesus.

The reality TV and amateur porn star posted the image on Instagram with a link to a website selling the same image on a candle, along with various other products featuring her face, her buttocks and marijuana.

Kardashian has been slammed by social media users over the item, who call it "disgusting" and "disrespectful".

The candle may be an illegal item in countries with strict blasphemy laws.

In New Zealand, Section 123 of the Crimes Act 1961 allows for imprisonment up to one year for anyone who publishes any "blasphemous libel" - but nobody has ever been convicted.

In the court of social media, however, Kardashian is not faring well.

"This is truly so disgusting. You say you believe in Jesus yet you're mocking his mother - why even wear that cross around your neck? You're embarrassing," writes on user on the Instagram post.

"Speechless. This is so disrespectful," adds another.

Another version of the Kim-as-Mary image is animated in a psychedelic style with a drug reference in the caption.

Kardashian's husband Kanye West has also offended Christians in the past by referring to himself as 'Yeezus' and releasing a song entitled 'I Am God'.
