Student's social experiment captures Wellingtonians by surprise

A university student with a passion for videography has conducted a social experiment on the Wellington waterfront, to show how differently we all see the world.

Caleb Williams, a commerce student at Victoria University, placed a disposable camera in a box labelled 'take a photo', and left it on the ledge along the Wellington waterfront.

He then stationed himself with a camera about 20 metres away, to film the results.

In the video, posted on YouTube today, students, tourists, families and individuals all stopped to take photos with the small camera labelled 'Caleb Jack'. The amateur filmmaker included their photographs in with his own footage.

Caleb said he was inspired by other similar videos he had seen in the past.

"When people get a camera, everyone takes different stuff - everyone has a different perspective on the world," he told Newshub.

"I wanted to see what would happen."

He said the experience had been made particularly special as he watched from afar.

"I was watching kids going past and smiling and laughing at it, families taking pictures - it was really cool."
