Eminem and Tom Hardy are two of the latest celebrities to throw their weight behind raising money for victims of the Manchester attack, each of them turning to fans to raise thousands of dollars.

The 'Kill You' rapper helped raise almost £2 million (NZ$3,600,000) in donations by posting a rare tweet urging fans to donate to a JustGiving page set up to help the families of the 22 people killed and 119 injured.

The support from Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, helped donations to soar past £1.8 million, the Daily Mail reports.

Eminem, who has 20 million Twitter followers, reportedly also gave an undisclosed donation personally.

The Manchester City Council replied to the tweet, thanking the controversial performer for his support.

Actor Tom Hardy also launched a JustGiving page to raise money for the victims of the suicide bombing attack, which he called "cruel, cowardly and barbaric".

The 39-year-old Dark Knight Rises star set up a fund to raise money for the British Red Cross, and has already raised over £34,000 (NZ$61,000)

In a lengthy, heartfelt post, Hardy urged urges fans to donate "as a gesture of goodwill and love" following the "inconceivable atrocity" that took place at Manchester Arena.

"I hope between us we can raise some funds as a gesture of goodwill and love to help in some small way towards repairing some if any of the damage done in the wake of last night's events," Hardy said.

As donations soared, he uploaded an emoji-decorated picture with his dog thanking fans for their support.
