The ultimate bit of bling for a gangsta rapper was up for auction in Boston this weekend.

Al Capone's diamond pocket watch went for US$84,375 during an auction on Saturday (local time) featuring other artefacts that belonged to some of the United States' most notorious gangsters.

The platinum pocket watch has the initials "AC" spelt out in diamonds inside a circle of more diamonds - a bit like bullet holes.

Along with the watch, a handwritten musical composition by Capone was also up for auction. It went for US$18,750, RR Auctions told ABC News.

The musical piece, 'Humoresque', is a little sweeter than you might expect from Capone. Written when Capone was in Alcatraz in the 1930s, it contains the lines: "You thrill and fill this heart of mine, with gladness like a soothing symphony, over the air, you gently float, and in my soul, you strike a note."
