Kiwi pop star Lorde was grateful to be handed a trophy for 2017 International Artist of the Year by Joe Jonas at the iHeartRadio MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto, Canada.

The 'Green Light' hitmaker was dressed in pink as she accepted the award, while in her home country concerts set for later this year sold out in mere minutes.

Lorde's award was the first of the ceremony to be handed out and she beat competition from Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar and Future.

"Thank you, I want to say thank you so much. Canada was one of the first places to go, 'hey, we like this little weirdo', so thank you," she said.

"I just want to say how grateful I am to everyone who waited for this record [Melodrama]. I know it's a long time to wait. Honestly to all of you, everyone who listened, all the kids outside of my hotel who said they love that album, thank you, I appreciate it."

Lorde was also nominated for Fan Fave International Artist, which she lost to Niall Horan, and Most Buzzworthy International Artist, which she lost to Ed Sheeran.

Meanwhile, tickets to the 20-year-old's concerts in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch sold out within minutes of going on sale on Monday afternoon, while her Dunedin show still has tickets on sale.

Scalpers are reportedly among those who snapped up the tickets, infuriating fans who missed out by quickly putting them back up for sale at inflated prices.
