All the Star Wars news from the D23 Expo on the weekend

This weekend's D23 expo featured a lot of exciting Star Wars news for Jedi to get excited about.

Star Wars Land, the most ambitious theme park expansion Disney has ever undertaken, finally has a name - Galaxy's Edge.

The announcement was made on Saturday (local time) by Scott Trowbridge, a creative executive with Disney's 'Imagineering' team.  The park, spanning six hectares, will allow visitors to feel like they're hanging out in a Star Destroyer hangar bay.

"Both Star Wars-inspired lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before Wild Space, where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life" a blog on Disney's website reads.

"Here, guests will find themselves in the middle of the action at two signature attractions: one that lets guests take the controls of Millennium Falcon on a customised secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance."

Star Wars fans will also be excited by the release of a brand new teaser for the eighth Star Wars movie, due to be released at the end of this year.

The Last Jedi follows up where 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens left off. Rian Johnson wrote and directed the movie starring Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis. New stars include Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.

Saturday's teaser offers a behind-the-scenes look at Episode VIII, complete with action shots, outtakes, and even some new characters.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is scheduled to hit theatres on December 15.
