Spider-Man: Homecoming heading to Kiwi cinemas

Two years after Sony and Marvel sealed the deal to bring Spider-Man into the Avengers fold, Spider-Man: Homecoming is here.

The movie delivers the fans a brand new Spider-Man - and the youngest-ever to pull on the suit.

You'd be forgiven for saying, Tom who?  But after the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, already a critical and box office behemoth in the US, 21-year-old Tom Holland from Britain won't be able to fly under the radar any longer.

We got a glimpse of Holland's new Spidey in the last Captain America film Civil War - a wee teaser of what was to come - and Spider-boy's first foray with The Avengers.

"It was the perfect way to start this franchise," Foray says. "Like [a] pre-exam… if I got it wrong I would be able to fix it by the next one. I was lucky to have the opportunity to test the water a little bit, [to] see what the fans wanted to see."

Foray says they really tried to ground his character in reality.

"The way they did that was to bring him back to his high school years. Part of the story of this character is watching a kid struggle juggling high school and being a super hero.

"It's just a lot of fun to see a kid enjoying himself. I really feel like if you gave a 15-year-old super powers, they would have the time of their life, and that's exactly what they tried to do with this movie."

Turns out the fans did want to see more of Holland's Spidey - a lot more - and they're not being disappointed. Running at 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel have yet another big winner on their hands.

"I am a fan of these movies, [and] of this movie," Foray says. "I cannot wait to watch it with the fans. I'm so honoured, privileged and so lucky they gave me this opportunity… I just can't wait for people to see my hard work."

That wait is now over. Spider-Man Homecoming swings into Kiwi cinemas just in time for the school holidays.
