Macklemore performed his gay rights anthem 'Same Love' at the Storm vs Cowboys match over the weekend in the midst of Australia's same-sex marriage referendum.
Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott publicly stated the rapper shouldn't be allowed to sing the song at the event, claiming "footy fans shouldn't be subjected to a politicised grand final".
'Same Love' was number one on the New Zealand singles chart for three weeks in 2013.
Macklemore has a number of accolades under his belt, including four Grammys, three MTV VMAs and two American Music Awards.
Tickets to his New Zealand shows go on sale October 10.
