Rock star Marilyn Manson has been hospitalised after being crushed by giant pistol stage props at a concert in New York.

The industrial metal rocker was performing at the Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday night (local time), when a prop display of two large pistols toppled on top of him.

Variety reports Manson, 48, was performing his cover of Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams Are Made of This' when he was knocked out by the falling props.

A huddle of people rushed on stage and then stretchered him off minutes later, according to the Daily Mail.

Confused concert goers told the newspaper they were "plunged into darkness" and told to leave the venue. They were all then ushered out into the street, and the rest of the concert was cancelled.

A statement from Manson's representative said: "Manson suffered an injury towards the end of an incredible NYC show. He is being treated at a local hospital."
