Stormy Daniels calls for Trump resignation in SNL sketch

Adult film actress Stormy Daniels made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live to call for US President Donald Trump's resignation.

The actress made her demand to Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump in the show's opening skit.

When he asked what she would need "for this to all go away" she replies: "A resignation."

She goes on to warn Trump that the tide is turning against him.

"I know you don't believe in climate change, but a storm's a-comin'!"

Daniels says she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006. She was paid $US130,000 (NZ$184,000) by Trump's lawyer Michal Cohen in the month before the 2016 US presidential election to keep quiet about the alleged sexual encounter a decade earlier.

The Saturday Night Live sketch featured a star-studded line-up including Ben Stiller as Michael Cohen, Scarlett Johansson and Jimmy Kimmel as Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Martin Short as Trump's doctor Harold Bornstein, and Alec Baldwin as Trump.

Daniels wants to be released from the non-disclosure agreement and has also filed defamation suits against Trump and Cohen.

Trump denies he and Daniels had an affair and initially said he didn't know about the settlement.

On Thursday, he acknowledged the non-disclosure agreement and said the settlement was paid through a monthly retainer, not campaign money. He still denies the affair.
