Auckland is having another go at hosting a major flower show after losing the Ellerslie show to Christchurch several years ago, though the earthquake put an end to that.
Event organiser Kate Hillier says the International New Zealand Flower and Garden Show will answer the prayers of many Aucklanders.
"People from Auckland have been crying out for a new flower show. For many years they've wanted one.
Securing the breathtaking landscape of Bastion Point was something organisers never thought possible, but the local iwi who own the land liked the idea.
It's expected to boost Auckland's economy by as much as $15 million.
