Investigation into Christchurch drug lab

Police searched a Christchurch property last night and discovered a laboratory for making illegal substances.

The search took place at a residential Linwood address where a number of items of interest were located including chemicals and two firearms, says Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Stewart.

A 48-year-old man was arrested and is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing and police are speaking to other occupants of the house.

"The scene examination will continue today and is likely to be completed over the weekend. To maintain the safety of the public and staff, armed police will remain at the address until the scene examination has been completed," Snr Sgt Stewart says.

He says the community has a right to feel safe and can help stop the supply of illegal drugs by reporting any suspicious activity.
