Police say the suspicious item that closed Mission Bay Reserve for three hours this morning was inside a chilly bin.
A scene examination is underway, and some police cordons are still in place around the immediate area the item was found.
Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Sami says the item was found by a member of the public walking through the reserve behind the police base.
There were concerns over the contents of the bin and so the police bomb squad was called in to safely destroy the item.
Investigations into the incident will cover what exactly was in the bin and how it came to rest in the reserve.
No further information will be released until later today.
