Emergency services have attended a serious crash near Gore overnight, in which a car has flipped.
The Toyota Surf was driving on River Rd between Gore and Mataura at around 12:20am, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled it.
The man been trapped inside the wreck as a result of the crash and the Fire Service were needed to free him.
He has sustained serious head injuries and is in hospital.
Four other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and they were lucky enough to escape with only minor injuries.
Police say a road diversion will be in place until the scene investigation has been completed.
