New Zealand writer Katherine Mansfield grew up in Wellington with her three sisters and her brother, Leslie.
He was the youngest and the sibling Katherine was closest to.
A former student at Wellington College, like many young men Leslie was keen to enlist.
So in 1914, at the age of 20, he joined the British Army.
